Guest Post: Leadership & Revelry

Guest Post: Leadership & Revelry December 5, 2012

Jen Olney is a friend of mine. We have plenty to talk about; Jen is passionate about leadership and organizational design. Jen is a mentor who works with people to develop their leadership, and the host of the #BeALeader tweetchat on Thursdays at 4:00 PM Pacific Time. I interviewed Jen several months ago, and am guest hosting this week’s chat.

I enjoy talking with Jen. She combines depth and clarity, and asks great questions. Jen is good at getting me to think about things and see them in new ways. She is honest and true, and is very good at being able to tell when I am joking and when I am very serious. It is a pleasure to share with Jen about leadership and revelry.

Thank you , Jen.

#BeALeader Who Revels In Every Moment….

What does it mean to revel? The dictionary defines revel as to bask in a sensation of delight or pleasurable emotion; 2. to frolic noisily, dancing, drinking, or partying in a celebratory way; (n.) an unrestrained celebration..

Unrestrained celebration….this part caught my eye. As leaders, we are entrusted to bring out the best in others – our personal leadership is the light that guides those who follow us to be their truest self and follow their path and purpose.

I’m not suggesting we party when we fail but rather, we allow ourselves to be human in the moment and see that failure is not fatal, rather, we can find the path to success through our failures in life, celebrate the success and the challenge at the same time. The hard work we put in to be successful is a celebration of our lives – it is the true destination on our journey and we should revel in every moment we can while we take the steps to reach our mountaintop. Revelry is a personal journey within each of us that is brought out by others who celebrate with us. Good or bad, we know that we have leaders who will be there to support us, cry with us and celebrate our journey.

This week, I’m honored to have Greg Richardson, Founder of StrategicMonk as my special guest on #bealeader. We will explore this topic of Leadership and Revelry during our hour together this Thursday, December 6th 7pmET/4pmPT only on Twitter.
