Working to Catch Up

There are days when it feels like it is just too much work to catch up.

There are new things to learn, and learn how to use, that are going to make my life amazingly better. There are new deadlines to meet, new challenges to face, new obstacles to overcome. There are new apps I am not using, new books I am not reading, new relationships I am not building.

How did all this work pile up when I was not looking? I just glanced away for an instant! How will I ever be able to catch up?

There are days when it feels like most of what I do is an effort to catch up on things I have missed.

I work with people who feel they may never catch up. They feel they are not working hard enough, failing to meet expectations, falling behind. They feel responsible, guilty, like they are letting other people down.

They hear people talk about finding their true selves or living lives of abundance, and they do not have time to listen.

I think sometimes people turn being caught up into as much of an obstacle as anything else. It is true, there are challenges. As much of a struggle as it can be, there are small, tangible steps to take to begin.

For example, it is not essential to be completely current all the time. There are apps, books, and seminars that I am able to live without. I wish I were better at cleaning out my email inbox, but I can usually live with it the way it is.

Acceptance is an important part of the journey.

Each day is a step forward.

Are you working to catch up?

What is the one thing on which you are working hardest to get caught up?
