Jo Piazza is not a nun. She states clearly in If Nuns Ruled the World that she does not see herself as a religious person. She asks good questions and writes insightfully about the ten women she meets on the journey of her book.

If Nuns Ruled the World explores the lives of ten nuns and the differences they make in the people round them. Their experiences share similarities while being diverse. Each brings passion and faith to the world in unique ways.

Some of them call the church itself to new life. One serves time in prison for breaching the security of a military installation that stores nuclear weapons. One ministers to women caught up in human trafficking. One works on issues of corporate social responsibility. One runs marathons and ironman events.

Each of these women, these nuns, recognizes that there are things that need to be changed in our world. Some are inspired by their own personal experiences, some by people they have known. Each of them expresses in her own way the deep spiritual life and truths from which her mission grows. Each of them relies on a supportive network of her spiritual life and her sisters.

I know women who are, and who have been, nuns. They have encouraged and inspired me, taught me and guided me. Sparking my interest with insightful questions and good humor, they inspire me to become more of my deepest, truest self.

Jo Piazza describes gaining from her time with these nuns their examples of living authentically. She appreciates that they live in the present, embracing each moment. In all of their passionate action, they have taught her valuable lessons about contemplation.

What differences do you make?

Who inspires you to become more deeply yourself?

How would life be different If Nuns Ruled the World?
