Spiritual life is all about love. Love is the seed of spiritual life, and the soil in which it is planted. Love feeds and nurtures spiritual life.

Spiritual life is how we learn to love ourselves. Love is how we share spiritual life with the people around us. Love sparks our appreciation for and commitment to the Sacred. Love is how we make a true difference in the world.

For spiritual life, love is what teaching and thinking are for intellectual life. Love is for spiritual life what strength, exercise, and nutrition are for physical life.

Love is where spiritual life comes from, where it lives, and where it is going.

Love sparks spiritual life. It is not the mushy, gushy feeling we may assume it to be. It is not about hearts, chocolate candy, or flowers. The love that feeds spiritual life is powerful, primal and fundamental. We need this love to stay alive, and are willing to do almost anything to find it.

The love we need is beyond our control. We cannot demand it, manufacture it, or manipulate it out of people. The only way to get more of the love we need is to share it, to give some of our love to someone else.

The love that sustains spiritual life is a source of power beyond what we can imagine. It is ready and waiting whenever we remember it, and it will never expire. There may be times when love seems in short supply, but it is a renewable resource.

Love strengthens spiritual life in us, and the light from that fire illuminates the darkness.

How does love feed spiritual life in you?

When will you need to rely on the power of love in spiritual life today?
