It is easy for us to ignore, get distracted, or procrastinate about spiritual life.

Spiritual life can be intimidating. Some people who take spiritual life seriously can come across as intense, or a little out there. Spiritual life can feel confusing, or confining. People who are serious about spiritual life often seem to be speaking about something else in a foreign language.

Spiritual life can seem warm and fuzzy, so we feel comfortable letting it slide.

We may accept the importance of spiritual life, but assume there will always be time for all that later. We may think spiritual life is fine for children or old people, people who cannot do life on their own.

We have gotten used to paying little serious attention to spiritual life. We develop the habit of not taking spiritual life seriously. It works the same way as always waiting to start exercising next week, or start saving with our next paycheck.

We live in a culture that does not trust spiritual life. It distracts us by covering spiritual holidays in layers of candy, turkey, and presents.

We are missing the serious importance of spiritual life, here and now, today.

Spiritual life does not insist that we pay attention, but is serious enough to be patient with us. Spiritual life does not grab at us, but looks us right in the eye and waits until we are ready to get serious.

If we continue to ignore spiritual life, we will arrive at the day when we are too late to start. In the same way that there will be a day when it is too late to start exercising, or too late to start saving.

Find someone you trust to help you start today.

How serious are you about spiritual life?
