Each year, I am reminded of lessons I have learned before. The pieces come together in new ways, with new people, in new places. Here are twelve of the most significant things I learned again this year:

1. Each year, each day, each moment is an opportunity for a fresh start.

2. Leadership is about recognizing and developing potential. My life and work have been transformed by people who saw potential in me.

3. The three essentials of leadership are: Know who you are. Believe you can lead. Take the next step.

4. The transforming power of gratitude brings out the best in me.

5. Listening creates and protects the silence people need to hear themselves.

6. I have an unhealthy relationship to work.

7. I am a monk in the city.

8. Leadership is starting over and over again.

9. Spiritual life is alive.

10. I want life, with the works.

11. It is only after making real sacrifices that turkeys come into their own as examples of leadership.

12. Each of us can do one thing to make meaningful progress tomorrow.

Happy 2015! Who knows what can happen . . .
