Working on the Same Job

We may go to work in an office or on a farm, at a school or a desk at home. We may use special equipment or depend on the strength of our own minds and bodies. We may need years of schooling. We may see our own work as unique and specialized.

The bottom line for all of us is that we are working on the same job. We are all explorers.

We spend our working lives, each day and each hour, discovering what inspires us.

Like people in sailing ships, or space ships, we set out each day to explore beyond what we can see.

There may be times when we see work as a long, challenging tunnel in which we are stuck. We have worked hard, followed good advice, and find we are not satisfied. Still, we are drawn to explore each day. There is no end to our exploration.

As much as we may envy other people or wish we had someone else’s life, we come alive as we explore possibility.

The people who inspire me are not those who have turned athletic or academic ability into wealth. They are not people who appear to have lives of happily ever after, living their dreams.

The people who inspire me do the work it takes to know who they are and what they desire. Each day is an opportunity to explore.

They do not hold onto their expectations, but reach out toward who they can become.

The first step each day is to open our eyes. We awaken to our true selves and we begin to explore. No matter how we earn a living, our work is to explore life.

What have you explored lately?

How will you explore what is possible today?

Where would you like to go next?
