It can be difficult for us to remember.

We fill our lives with distraction. We have so many things we need to do, to achieve, to accomplish. We have a list of things that must be finished today, this week, this month. We need to check Facebook on our phones. We hear information or see a video, and we do not pay attention to the people and values that inspire us.

We forget.

When we ease our grasp on what is real and essential, we are washed away on a tide of our fantasies and dreams.

Remembering helps us hold onto what matters to us. We remember the people who have encouraged us with examples of who we want to become. We remember the experiences that have shaped us. We remember when we have felt spiritual life fill us and pour out of us into the world.

We see the face of each person who has reminded us of the deep spiritual truths that light our hearts on fire.

Spiritual life reminds us and gives us opportunities to take time to remember.

It can also be a challenge for us to stop remembering. We can become lost in painful memories. Our memories can overwhelm us, sweeping us away in regret and anxiety.

Spiritual life strengthens us in our ability to breathe, to find growth and healing in our memories. We remember without living in the past or rushing into the future.

We see what we remember in new ways. The people and experiences that inspire us have new lessons to teach us. When we share our memories, spiritual life grows deeper and stronger in the people around us.

How will you remember spiritual life this week?

When do you take the opportunity to share your memories?
