Wired for Authenticity by Henna Inam is a valuable tool for leaders seeking to lead from their true selves.

Henna, who leads Transformational Leadership, Inc., first spells out the case for authentic leadership. On that foundation, she builds a supportive framework of practices to help people become authentic leaders. She concludes by describing how those practices come together to bring authenticity alive.

Henna begins with helping us recognize the value of authenticity. Wired for Authenticity helps us explore our true selves, and the obstacles we face in that exploration. She describes her own struggles with becoming more authentic and gives examples we can follow. Henna also includes exercises to help us begin our own self discovery processes.

The central section of Wired for Authenticity contains seven steps for practicing authenticity. Each of Henna’s practices includes a summary of three big ideas in the chapter. Each one includes questions to ask yourself and experiments to try as you turn them into habits. Each chapter is engaging, informative, and helps leaders put the values of authenticity into everyday practice. Each of those seven chapters is valuable.

My own favorite practice from Wired for Authenticity is the second: Stay Curious. Each of the steps is valuable and has taught me significant lessons. For me, curiosity is an essential quality that ties all the practices together. It can be a challenge for me to sustain my interest in things without curiosity. Curiosity may be distracting at times, but there is usually something deep that sparks mine.

I am asking myself the questions and trying the experiments from that chapter, and the others.

Henna Inam’s Wired for Authenticity will help you find practical ways to become the leader you can be.

How does your leadership draw authenticity from your true self?

What sparks your deepest curiosity?
