Some leaders become great because they plan and prepare. Some become great because they are adaptable and flexible. Some leaders find their greatness in persistence and perseverance, overcoming all obstacles. Some find greatness in how they inspire the people around them.

Some people become great leaders by being patient, while others find greatness in impatience.

There is no formula for finding greatness in leadership. There is no accurate map showing us where to turn or which footsteps to follow.

We may learn from the examples of people who have gone before us. We may read what they have written or hear what they have said. None of them, no matter how wise, can show us our own greatness.

Each of us, no matter who we are, has greatness hidden within us. Each of us needs to find our own greatness for ourselves.

The idea of greatness can be intimidating. We convince ourselves greatness is beyond us to protect ourselves. We distract ourselves from our own potential for greatness with superheroes and superstars. We fool ourselves into thinking we are not great.

First, we must recognize the greatness within us. Greatness is not reserved for special individuals, other people. Each of us is great in our own ways. We must see ourselves in a new light.

With that understanding, we find our own personal greatness. It is not enough for us to be great in general; we are great in particular.

There is a unique greatness within us, within me and within you. The greatness in us emerges as we practice seeing ourselves as great.

The greatness in you sparks the greatness in others. Together, we become even greater.

How have you distracted yourself from your own greatness?

Where will you look for your greatness today?
