Many of us approach spiritual life as if it were an option, something we can choose if we want.

We feel we can add spiritual life to the mix when we are more in touch with our spiritual side. Certain holidays or seasons seem to be more conducive to spiritual life. Some people appear to be more spiritual than others. We may feel the need to gear up or prepare ourselves for spiritual life.

The fact is spiritual life is not sporadic or intermittent, even when it might feel that way. Spiritual life is constant. There may be times when we are more open to spiritual life than others. Spiritual life is always with us.

Spiritual life is not something we need to work ourselves into experiencing. Spiritual life is woven into every moment, into the basic structure of our existence.

We tend to forget about spiritual life. It is easy for us to get caught up in everything we want to experience, everyone we want to help. We become distracted by all the things demanding our attention. We may forget. We may need to pause and remember spiritual life.

We lose sight of spiritual life because we like to believe we can do things on our own. We want to see ourselves as capable and independent. We prefer not to pay attention to anything deeper or more sacred than what is right in front of us. We desperately want to be able to handle, to control, things on our own.

Being open to spiritual life is appreciating we cannot, and do not need to, control its deep truths. Being open to spiritual life reminds us it is woven into us.

What reminds you spiritual life is woven into every moment?

How will you remember the deep presence of spiritual life each day this week?
