We often think of spiritual life as being ethereal, floating in the air like smoke. We assume spiritual life is theoretical, conceptual, vague, or even imaginary.

The idea of spiritual life makes us a little uncomfortable. Spiritual life always seems to be just beyond our reach, outside our experience or understanding.

For many of us, spiritual life is something from a time long ago, like magic or sorcery.

We believe in the aspects of life our senses experience. We trust physical and medical life, intellectual life, financial life, even emotional life. We tend to have quite a few doubts and questions about spiritual life.

In fact, spiritual life holds the various components of our lives together in balance.

One step we can take to help us is approaching spiritual life from a different direction. Spiritual life is not just building castles in the air. Spiritual life has a solid foundation on the ground.

It is easy to see spiritual life as intangible. People often use long, complicated terms which are not from our everyday language to talk about spiritual life. We can forget all those words and focus on what they mean.

Spiritual life is rooted in what happens to us every day. It is not shrouded in the mists of history or an uncertain future. Spiritual life is right now.

Spiritual life is built one stone at a time. We clear away obstacles and measure to ensure we are building straight. We place one stone on top of another, one step at a time.

Spiritual life is rooted and grounded in us. We are drawn closer to our true selves, to each other, to deep Sacred truth.

Where is spiritual life grounded in you today?

How do you explore the foundations of spiritual life?
