We think of leaders as people who are focused on what needs to be done.

Great leaders are not distracted by interpersonal conflict, politics, or physical obstacles. We depend on leaders to have a plan, foresee challenges, and find ways to put the plan in action. We expect our leaders to help us get where we want to go.

We would like our leaders to be unflappable. We want to know our leaders cannot be shaken or caught off guard. We seek centered leadership.

How do leaders find their leadership center? What gives their leadership the deep sense of purpose to help them become and stay centered?

Finding our leadership center is crucial when our expectations are so high. While each leader becomes centered in their own way, there are steps that can help.

Our leadership center is within us.

Leaders look for the source and strength of their leadership in many different places. Some read certain books or authors. Some attend particular schools or conferences.

The key to finding our true center is recognizing and appreciating our true selves. No matter what shiny colors might distract us, our leadership center is within us.

Our leadership center is a place of calm acceptance.

Yes, leadership is about helping people become better and stronger. Our ability to inspire people to become their best, to lead, comes from our own acceptance of ourselves.

When we see ourselves as failing, we cannot help others find their own center.

Finding our leadership center takes time and work.

It is unlikely we will stumble into our own center. Even if we do discover our true center without working hard, there is much more to explore.

How will you discover your own leadership center?

Who will help you find your calm, centered leadership?
