Guest Post: Leading with Love

Guest Post: Leading with Love October 16, 2012

Jennifer Alhasa is a great friend. She is strong and courageous, and appreciates the value of leading with love. Jennifer is smart and insightful, and has the heart and perseverance to learn the deep lessons that come with overcoming an intimidating challenge like cancer.

Jennifer has an amazing smile and an excellent laugh. She has eyes that see with wisdom, and a heart that is full of love. Jennifer is the kind of leader I want to be.

In our world of e-commerce, social media marketing and newsletters ad nauseum, it’s easy to get caught up in a race to accumulate retweets, Likes and email addresses. Trust me, I did. But I found little fulfillment building my list and chasing would-be customers.

I grabbed brunch with pals one sunny Sunday here in New York. When asked, I said I loved my Cancer Coaching work but just wanted to be doing more of it. One friend reported that his landscaping business boomed in 20-12. Between bites of tasty Thai, I learned that Eric’s Great Gardens – with no website, Fan page or Twitter presence – increased its income by 75%. And in the middle of a lingering recession no less!

So I asked him, “What’s the secret to success?”

“I build great gardens and people tell their friends,” Eric replied. “It’s that simple.”

Good old word of mouth strikes again!

That got me thinking. Amma doesn’t go around saying, “I’m the Hugging Saint. I hug 3,000 souls a day and people flock from all over the world to see me. Wanna join my mailing list?” She just shows up, hugs for 12 hours and leaves love in her wake. Same thing with Jesus. Bet he never bragged about turning water into wine or healing the sick. He just went about his work and left the tales for others to tell.

Who do I follow now, I wondered, that I admire? What leads me to share a person’s writing or teaching with my friends?

What they all have in common is this: they focus on service and they lead with love.

So what does it mean to lead with love?

It’s greeting everyone we meet as the divine being they are. It’s realizing that everybody – Republican, Democrat and undecided –  is doing the best they can and treating them accordingly. It’s remembering the perfect, beautiful baby inside each of us and looking past personality differences. It’s dropping judgement, stopping separation and encouraging oneness instead. It’s uplifting the WE instead of the me!

Want YOUR business to grow? Want to change OUR world? Want to be a great leader AND leave a legacy?

Be the love!

Be the love!

Be the love!

Namaste,

Jennifer Alhasa, Cancer Coach

p.s. Since I started focusing on LOVE, my business is up 85%! Not a shabby side effect, eh?
