This may be the summer after high school, or college, graduation for you. It may be the summer after you finished grad school, or your dissertation. You may have spent your entire life working toward this summer. Now it is here. It may be a summer filled with expectations, anxieties, and questions for you. After focusing on a specific goal for years, you may have no clear path forward.

This may be a summer just like last summer for you. You may have planned your career, followed everyone’s advice, stayed on track. You have done what you set out to do, played by the rules, done your best. After a few years of learning how to do what you do in the real world, here you are. You may be very good at what you do. It may be exactly what you hoped you would be doing when you looked forward to this summer.

You may be wondering whether it is enough for you. How much longer will you want to do this? What else would you like to do? What else could you do?

This may be a summer you are looking toward retirement. You have had a good, satisfying career. You may be eager to spend more time with your family, or travel, or volunteer. When will you have enough to retire? What would you like to do next summer, or the summer after that?

We put our energy into predicting the future and remembering the past. This may a summer for you to take a deep breath and spend some time in the present. This may be the moment when you pause to listen to yourself and the world around you.

Who could help you sort things out this summer?

Where would you like to go next?
